How ToolsForCredit makes money, and how we keep our recommendations independent.

How we make money

Free education is the core of ToolsForCredit. Our guides, the 6-step credit checkup and our calculators are free to use, with no sign-up required.

Some pages may include links to paid third-party services. If you click one of those links and sign up, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Any page with these links says so near the top, before the first link.

We may also offer an optional paid tier with additional tools. You never need it to use the free guides or the credit checkup.

Editorial independence

Commissions don’t affect how we rank options or what we recommend.

When a free or official option exists, we list it first. That includes AnnualCreditReport.com for your credit reports, the three credit bureaus for freezes and disputes, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Federal Trade Commission for complaints, dispute help and identity theft recovery.

What we’re not

We’re not a credit bureau, a lender or a credit repair company. We don’t make lending decisions, and we can’t remove information from your credit report.

ToolsForCredit provides educational information only, not legal or financial advice. We don’t promise any score increase, loan approval, interest rate or other result. Outcomes depend on your own credit history and each lender’s decisions.
